Teresa Arredondo is the President & CEO of ArtCraft Paint. Teresa’s humble origins began in Michoacan, Mexico. Her father died when she was five and her mother, Maria Luisa Torres Arrendondo, was left with ten children to raise. Drawing on the examples of the many strong women in her family, Maria Luisa moved to the U.S. to forge a better life for her children. Teresa and her siblings remained in the care of her aunts. Maria Luisa worked diligently for ten years and was able to obtain residency for her children. Teresa was 15 years old when she immigrated to the U.S in 1977.
Teresa began her career as a harvest worker in the strawberry fields. Driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, she had leased two parcels of her own and became a strawberry grower by the age of 19. Realizing the need for more education, she studied electrical engineering and mathematics at the Center of Employment Training in Santa Maria.
A newspaper ad for an upholsterer led her to the aviation business. The company, Aerofair, turned her away, saying the position was “a man’s job”. A year later she was running the upholstery division of the business and purchased the rest of the company within two years.
She started over and revamped the business as ArtCraft Paint, Inc. For more than 20 years, ArtCraft has built a reputation for providing the highest quality aircraft painting and interior refurbishment, using the latest technology. The company is ranked as one the Top Five aircraft paint facilities in the nation. Her success has brought Teresa many awards, including Business Woman of the Year by Women’s Economic Venture.
Teresa’s sons both serve in the military, Arturo in the Marines and Alejandro in the Army.
“I believe I was born a fighter,” asserts Teresa. “I fight for what I believe. I fight against injustice. I fight for what I want, and sometimes I fight just because it’s part of my culture.”
